Västtrafik relaunches “Buss On Demand” in Gothenburg: a wider and more flexible service

After two years of fruitful collaboration with Padam Mobility, the mobility authority in the Gothenburg region, Västtrafik, is taking a new step forward. Since the beginning of May, its on-demand transport service Buss On Demand has been given a new look, with expanded functionalities, reinforced territorial coverage and increased comfort for users.

A complementary service to the traditional bus network

Launched two years ago with the ambition to better serve less accessible areas, Buss On Demand now confirms its usefulness by meeting a fundamental need: to offer public transport that is more flexible, more accessible, and more humane.

“Local travelers have seen their experience improve the most,” explains Nils, Strategic Planner at Västtrafik. “The service now covers a much wider geography than traditional bus lines. You no longer need to live near a bus stop to be mobile.”

Another major advantage: the direct journey without transfers. Once on board, the user is taken to the destination without interruption. Appreciable comfort in a region with a complex geographical network, and a saving of precious time for daily trips.

New features that make life easier

The enhanced version of the service now includes:

  • An expanded vehicle fleet, with slightly larger buses to better manage demand.
  • Extended time slots : of 5 am to 9 pm during the week, and of 10am to 8pm on weekends, to better stick to the rhythms of life of the inhabitants.
  • The possibility of buying your ticket directly on board, via bank card, which is a major advance in terms of convenience and digital inclusion.

These developments are part of a logic of continuous improvement driven by listening to users and feedback from the field.

A strengthened close relationship

Beyond the technical aspect, Buss On Demand draws its strength from the human relationship it recreates between users and the public service. The direct relationship with the driver, which is often perceived as more personal, contributes to creating a warmer and more engaging transportation experience.

“This is a real plus for the inhabitants: they can board as close as possible to home, and be dropped off exactly near their destination. This more direct link with the driver also makes all the difference.”, highlights Nils

Västtrafik thus shows the example of a public mobility service capable of adapting to the expectations of users and communities, by reconciling technological innovation, operational efficiency and strong local roots.
