2025
The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 were a truly unforgettable spectacle, bringing together millions of fans and athletes from around the world. But beyond the triumphs on the grand stages, there was avery special task to accomplish behind the scenes: ensuring that people withreduced mobility could also participate and reliably get from A to B. This was a tremendous logistical challenge, especially since the Games were spread across Paris's existing infrastructure and did not take place in a single venue.
The Challenge: More Than Just Taxis
Paris 2024 had a strong commitment to inclusion. For example, there was an expert group comprising individuals with disabilities,300,000 reserved tickets for spectators with disabilities and their accompanying persons, and 500 designated wheelchair accessible spots for theopening ceremony. While initiatives like 1,000 accessible taxis and reserved parking spaces were great steps, they simply weren't enough to meet the anticipated demand. This is where Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) came in. The French mobility authority, which has been operating the world's largest on-demand service for the greater Paris area with Padam Mobility for over eight years, requested assistance in creating a customized shuttle service.
Padam Mobility: Expert in Accessible Passenger Transport
Since 2014, Padam Mobility has been a leader in on-demand public transport solutions, specializing in making mobility accessible in areas where traditional public transport is insufficient. To thisend, Padam Mobility offers an intelligent and flexible software suite that also enables rides for people with special needs, either as a dedicated service or combined with 'classic' on-demand services. A Seamless Travel Experience for Every Spectator
Padam Mobility's solution for Paris 2024 was a logistical masterpiece. A team specifically assembled for this event developeda booking platform tailored to the event. This booking system was designed with user-friendliness in mind and enabled:
This meant navigating a complex web of constantly changing traffic regulations and special Olympic routes, while ensuring smooth access to specially designed pick-up and drop-off areas.
A Joint Sprint to Success
Successfully launching such a mammoth project with relatively short lead time required strong partnership. Padam Mobility collaborated with the communications agency Relief for the public website, Keolis and APF Handicap for operational services, and Kisio for customer relations. From the kick-off event in August/September 2023 to going live in March 2024, the teams worked tirelessly to collect data, define services, develop the platform, and adapt to evolving needs.
The Road to the Podium…
The results speak for themselves. During the Olympicand Paralympic Games, Padam Mobility's solution achieved:
This success at the Paris 2024 Olympic and ParalympicGames was the result of a shared vision for inclusive mobility. It was built on the seamless communication among all stakeholders, the comprehensive investments from Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), and the invaluable dedication of on-site volunteers.
Padam Mobility played a central role: their agile approach and ability to integrate complex technical specifications andoptimize routes using the special Olympic GPS were crucial.
Padam Mobility didn't just provide a service, they actively contributed to making Paris 2024 a truly accessible and inclusive event for thousands of people. An excellent example of how innovative technology and strong partnerships can overcome significant challenges to create a positive impact.
