In September 2021, HertsLynx, the new DRT service developed by Padam Mobility and operated by Uno Bus, was launched in the rural areas of Herts County in the UK. It serves villages in the north and east of the county as well as fixed destinations in city centres. The service is expected to make it easier for users to travel in these low-density areas and meet critical mobility needs.
The HertsLynx service will be the first DRT service in the UK to be funded by the Department for Transport's Rural Mobility Fund. To launch the service, Herts County has received £1,472,000 (out of a total of £20 million spread across 17 counties).
The HertsLynx service is designed to improve connections between rural areas, including filling a gap in public transportation provision for east-west travel in the county and access to city centres. This will extend access to employment, education, health care and trade.
The service will use 3 new up to date vehicles (operating in Hertfordshire in a free floating configuration) and 2 additional buses planned for the second year (5 vehicles in total). It will operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The rides can be booked in real time or in advance (up to 30 days in advance).
